First post of the new year! Happy 2011 everyone! It seems so weird to be in a new year already. My folks always said that time flies by so quick, that they were my age yesterday. I'm finally starting to appreciate those words of wisdom fully.
I've been wanting to pay homage to the book "Slaughterhouse Five" for a long time. It's one of my favorites, but I could never come up with a composition that fully captured what I loved about it. I tried drawing the main characters over and over, but it never came out the way I wanted it to. So...
I decided to take a new approach. The famous last line of the book had always intrigued me, so I thought I'd make that my base. Next, I tried to think of a main event of the book. Since Vonnegut wrote it as an anti-war novel, I decided to incorporate the bombing of Dresden into the background. The author uses great words to describe how war causes so much loss (I won't disclose them...go read the book), and I wanted to draw something in that vein as well.
School's starting up again, so I'm not sure how frequent the posts will be from this point on (until the end of March anyway...I get my AA then. Yes!). I'll try to do at least one a week: that's my new goal.
Enjoy this new blessed year.
