Huhwhahuh #6

Not really sure where this one came from. The closest I can come to an explanation is a picture I saw a while ago from on of my favorite (and, sadly, deceased) artists Mike Wieringo. He drew comics for franchises such as Spider-Man and Fantastic Four but also had many creations/series entirely his own. And one thing he used to do was take a comic character/ordinary situation...and draw it with animals in the place where humans should be. There was one where he used a bear, and that's kinda where this started...except I think the bear was in military commander uniform. It's great to look at and fun to imagine. So I guess this subject matter is a kinda of homage to his memory.
As for this specific situation...hmmm. I've been trying to draw more animals lately since I draw people almost every post. We'll see how many different animals I can get on here. I think these turned out ok.
You can find a link Mike Wieringo's blog here. See if you can find the picture I was talking about. I think it's kinda old...toward the end.
Anyway, hope this one was worth the wait.

The Wild Things Are Here

Here is the first of my tributes to Where the Wild Things Are. I remember liking it as a child: the illustrations were so good, and I recently had time to sit down and look through it again. It's not a long book, but the pictures are quite good. My interpretation is a tribute to both the book and the new film coming out (which I'm very excited to see.) Plus, I added a few things in to give it my own little twist. The characters are so fun to look at and draw, and hopefully this will be far from the last picture I'll post with this subject matter. Hope you enjoy it. I thrilled me immensely to draw it.

Friends I Have Known #9

I don't plan the order of the pictures or when the subject matter will hit me. It just happened that I started a pic of a friend while sitting across from him in class, and it morphed and before I could stop myself...I had finished it. So, yes, another friend picture...but a good one, I hope. He doesn't exactly look like this. I did his hair and glasses a little different and gave him the French facial hair, but I think it adds. We'll see what he thinks.

Huhwhahuh #5

Well. Can't take credit for coming up with the idea for this one. A friend asked me to do it, and he can't remember how it came about either, so if you know me personally, don't ask. I don't have an answer.
I like doing these 'full page' pics once in a while. They take longer, are more frustrating, and most times turn out 'wrong', but I hope this does justice to however this idea came about. I think it does. I'm only sorry I didn't come up with the idea first. It seems so obvious now...

A Showcase of Bands #4

The next band picture is of Muse. I'd always liked Muse, but with the release of their new album, "The Resistance", they've hopped back into one of my top spots. A lot of the subject matter of the new album has to do with conflict, and with the title being "The Resistance", I quickly latched onto the idea of a wartime setting for the picture. I know I say this a lot, but I really like how this one turned out. The buildings, smoke, and ashes were all made from scratch in Photoshop, but I like the feel of how it looks...organic in a way. So for all of you Muse fans out there, this one's for you. And if you don't actively listen to them, or haven't heard of them at all, I recommend you go out and get some of their schtuff. It's very good.

Friends I Have Known #8

Ah. Another friend picture. This friend is actually quite new. A couple of weeks ago she was just an acquaintance through other friends, but I've been getting to know her better through school. At least I think she considers me a friend. Hopefully something better than just a 'friend of a friend', or, as she would say, "That Guy I sit next to in Math Class." She'll understand what I mean. hee hee hee
The picture itself combined some elements I'd been waiting to try out in Photoshop, namely the use of layers...and more importantly the possibilities they offer. The plaid of the jacket is not my design (I don't have that much patience, people...), rather a pattern found on Google Images...but used in just the right way...
I really like how the coat turned out. It actually was exactly what I was hoping it would look like.
Enjoy this one. I certainly did.

Oh, and by the way...that W on the bag...it's actually not a W. It's an upside-down M. She'll understand that as well.
Cheers.
