Olympics Recognized #3

This one was a request from my grandpa. I asked, and this is what I was given, but I suppose I've worked with less. With this one, I thought I'd take the idea of "This particular skier has a unique style/dynamic" to the next level. I'm sure that this isn't even possible, but if it is, my hat would be off: that's for sure. It's my day off from work, so I was able to whip this one out relatively quickly (no more that 2 hrs). As Sean Galloway would say, "Hope 'ya digs!"

Olympics Recognized #2

Figure skating is probably the most of what I've seen concerning the Olympics (I watched the men's, pairs, and ice-dance). I didn't plan it that way, but that's mostly what was on when I got home from work and mostly the tail-end at that. It only follows, then, that I should be inspired to do a figure skating picture. It's supposed to be the woman throwing the man into some sort of salchow-jump (however many spins you want him to be doing.) It's not that funny, but I like how this one feels. I feel like I landed the move with this one. Everything I wanted comes through on it. Hope you like it. I should have one or two more Olympics pictures before the end of the games.

Olympics Recognized #1

I finally caved. A lot of people wanted me to do some Olympics themed pictures, and, after an incident involving cut brake lines and a rather ripe banana, I decided to give in. I guess it's a big deal around here because it's actually in the same timezone as where I live, and about a 5 hour drive away (if driving over water was possible.) I had the idea of sticking with a (somewhat) "humorous" theme with the pictures, but I want to call attention to the fact that this decision was before the luge accident involving the death of Georgian Nodar Kumaritashvili. I want you all to know that I would never make fun of a tragedy like that: it would be immoral. I continue with this theme, but understand that real and serious accidents happen very often at events like this, and it is never a laughing matter. My heart goes out to Nodar's family and friends, and hope they think of this less as a tragedy but rather that he died doing what he loved. Pray for the safety of all athletes: that nothing like this will happen throughout the rest of the games.
I did not design the Olympics logo, but I don't know who did, so props go to the guy/gal who did. I merely used it to better identify the subject matter.

A Day Late

I know that it's the day after Valentimes, but I started this one with the aim of publishing it on the holiday, but as is so often with life, plans changed. I instead spent time with friends, and I think that's a good enough reason. I'm not sure where the idea for this one came from, but it looks very similar to the picture I had in my head.
This one goes out to my friend Alex, who, as I'm sure happened with many people in the world, got her heart broken just in time for Valentines Day. People are so lame sometimes. To all of you who spent V-Day wishing you weren't in the spot that you were, my HEART goes out to you. Additional puns not included: see dealer for details.

Not Much Different

This started out as a stab at more realistic representations of people, but I've come to the conclusion that I can't master that skill in one try. So I guess this will be one of many. The person is supposed to be Emily Haines, based off of this picture and Metric's latest album cover. I don't know what it is about drawing realistic people: I just don't seem to GET it. As one of my friends pointed out, it's probably due to the fact that I never had anyone teach me how...which makes sense now that I think of it. It's not that I've got to make them look more real: it's more of an exercise than anything. I enjoy my style as it is, but it changes all the time, and with it my perception of what my style is. I suppose it's just a matter of getting into "work on it as long as I can until someone finds my work and wants to hire me" mode. I should start writing a children's book or something, although the only idea I've been given for subject matter was a book entitled "Billy's Booger Blunders", a story about how picking your nose gets you into all kinds of trouble. I was a bit skeptic at first...and then I took a look at most of the children's books that are on the market right now, and I'm like, "Huh...that'll probably fit right in."
Whether or not you've actually read this whole schpeel, hope you enjoy the picture. It's not flashy, but it was, like all the others, fun to flesh out and a good experience.

Another Serious One

This one comes from my heart. If there's something that I love as much as art, it's music. No matter what kind of day I'm having, music always picks me up. I'd rather listen to music when I've got a headache then take pain killers, which I don't think makes much sense, but I digress. This one, again, showcases my favorite band: MUTEMATH. Using them helped me to get the picture done a bit quicker since, as is synonymous with most thinks in life, you tend to things quicker if it is or involves something you enjoy. Nevertheless, the message behind the picture is evident and just as urgent. The earthquakes that wracked Haiti did unspeakable damage, both to the earth and the human condition over there. It's seems that the right thing to do is to help, if only in some small way. And please, take heed of the seriousness of the challenge I propose to you: it's an important one.
