I'm excited...are you excited?

I have yet to see Pixar's new film 'UP', but I guess this trailer came with it.
And I'm excited.

Friends I Have Known #2

Here's another friend of mine. This was a particularly hard idea to come up with, but I finally found a position and props to make it truly him. Most of you will never know what this picture represents or means. But he will. And that's all that matters, really.

A Barrage from the Past: Day 7

This one was inspired by the movie "Once". I really enjoyed the music in the film, and was really inspired by the way that both of the main characters in the movie could create music together so beautifully. I think that the man in the movie is also a recording artist with a band, but I have no idea as to who he is. I'll have to check on that.

A Barrage from the Past: Day 6

I have always been a fan of A Series of Unfortunate Events. The first time I read the first book, a whole new genre opened up to me. It was written in a way that didn't try to make you feel good, (very sad and gloomy circumstances), but it made you want to read on, using reverse psychology to make you read on. The idea of the story was great, though it could have progressed quickerishly. Instead of 13 books, I'm sure Lemony Snicket could have fit it all in a trilogy, with each book being longer that 100 pages.
Anyway, here's my interpretation of the three main characters: Violet, Klaus, and Sunny.

A Barrage from the Past: Day 5

I've always liked costume balls...mostly looking at them from a distance, but participation in one every once in a while is ok too. I decided to try my hand at a costume idea, not for myself obviously but just as an excercise to try and draw (again) something new I hadn't tried before. There are so many little details that I loved putting into this one. You may not notice it at first, but if you look closely at the dress, the sequin pattern maps out a face on the left side. I loved the mask the best though. I thought about having it equal sizes on both sides, but as part of a happy accident, I didn't draw it so, and I like it better uneven. I just recently did a colored version for fun, and it turned out ok.

A Barrage from the Past: Day 4

Just a quick one today. I drew this in Math last year. I don't know why. It was review day, so we didn't have to do anything important except listen to the teacher talk again about what she just told us yesterday, so...
I brightened up the colors a bit and added an effect to the background to liven it up a bit. I should do these more often. They're really fun.

Here's some great short films that are being promoted by YouTube right now. It's exciting to see new filmmakers that make truly cool films:

A Barrage from the Past: Day 3

Both of these are pics inspired by Coldplay's last studio 'album', Viva la Vida. I was going to try to draw a pic of every song...I loved that album. The idea quickly died...I don't know why. But these two made it out of my head before the enthusiasm wore off. The first was inspired by a line from the song '42', the line that goes, "Those who are dead are not dead...they're just living in my head." It just gave me a really strong mental picture, the best material for drawing a picture.

The second pic was inspired by "Strawberry Swing." First time I heard it, this image of a girl/woman swinging came into my head. It's great when stuff like that just hits you. That way you have a really clear idea instead of just a random correlation of thoughts that get you nowhere of paper after about 2 hours sitting at a desk trying to draw the first line. Hope you enjoy them. I enjoyed making them.

A Barrage from the Past: Day 2

I'm not sure where this one came from either. I suppose it was just the want to try something new for a change. I guess I normally depict things that a.) are not real, or b.) just plain off the wall. I do not do caricature. Do not let me ever hear you say that about my work. If you want to see what a caricature is, type the word into Google Images. Now. Or better yet, follow this link. Did you? Gooood. Now you know that what I draw is not caricature, no matter how bad you want it to be. I suppose I'll post another crazy picture tomorrow, but for now...take in that true breath of pure, unblemished serious picture smell.

A Barrage from the Past: Day 1

For the next several days, I'll be posting pictures that I've drawn not-so-recently, all of which (I think) are from last year at the latest. It'll give you a look into a time when my drawing skills and style were still developing. I'll start with this guy. I'm not sure where this one came from: probably after watching some boxing movie like Cinderella Man I just got inspired. I wanted it to take the look of a trading card your grandpa had when he was a boy: beaten up, torn around the edges, but worth $15,000 if you were to find the right buyer. It was drawn significantly big on paper, so I didn't want to attemt coloring it with markers (as back then I didn't yet have Photoshop). But I was able to come up with a close idea of how I invisioned it would look in my mind (post-Photoshop).

You know what I don't hate?...I don't hate vests...

As some of you may know by the name of the post, this drawing is about Left 4 Dead. I think it's amusing that in the beginning everyone thought that this game was going to be super scary and nerve-wracking, but we've come to see that it's actually pretty funny sometimes. You'll see what I mean after the pics. They're a little older (last year), but I was satisfied with many aspects of it...especially Bill's face (far left).

You know the drill. Here's the original:

And here's the colored version (pre-Photoshop):

Friends I Have Known #1

This is a pic of a friend I did awhile ago. After the arrival of Photoshop, I was able to do an ok color version. I especially liked the bass. It was fun to try to recreate…and for you music buffs who noticed 5 strings…it is in fact a limited edition Ibanez 5 string bass. So there.

"Now there's a Batman."

This was one that I did after seeing The Dark Knight (I'm sure you couldn't tell). It's been tweaked a bit bumped up the lighting and added a lens flare to act as the source of the light. It was great fun to draw and color. I'm only disappointed that I didn't make a copy to color: I did it with pen and markers. Can't go back now though...oh well.
I'm interested to see where they go with the franchise. Christian Bale said he's definatly on for a few more as Batty, and Aaron Eckhart hasn't denied that Two-Face is still alive after the film ends. We'll see what happens...even if it'll take a few years to put out the next one.
